Klaus Kansy is retired from Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT (2001–2010); previously, he was researcher at the German National Research Center for Computer Science (GMD) since 1969. He studied Mathematics at the Universities of Münster and Bonn, where he was granted a doctorate in Numerical Mathematics. In 1972, he started work in Computer Graphics with cartographical projects. From 1975–1994, he was member of German and international standardization committees for Computer Graphics. From 1977–1981, he was editor of GKS, the first graphics standard. He was co-author of the major reference book on the GKS standard (2 editions in 1984 and 1987, translated into Russian; reprinted in India and China). He is member of the Eurographics since 1981, member of the Executive Committee (1990-1993), vice chair (1993-1994), and Fellow since 1995.
