Reinhard Klein received a diploma degree in mathematics from the University of Tübingen Germany in 1989 and a PhD in computer science from the same university in 1995. After his habilitation in 1999 he hold a position as professor of computer graphics at the University of Darmstadt and as head of the research group “Animation and Image Communication” at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics in Darmstadt. Currently, Dr. Klein is a full professor of computer science at the University of Bonn, Germany. Besides that, he is cofounder and head of the Steinbeis Research Center “Computer Graphics and Digitization”, a member of the Steinbeis Transfer Network fostering implementation of the very latest know-how and findings from research and development within companies. His research interests include computer graphics with a special focus on digitization of 3D geometry and surface materials, rendering, geometric modeling and shape analysis, hardware accelerated graphics, large datasets and interaction techniques as well as computer graphics and visualization techniques in applications like geographic information systems, cultural heritage, medicine and biology. Klein published, with J. Encarnação and W. Strasser, a comprehensive German book on computer graphics in two volumes. He co-authored more than 130 scientific publications and acted as a reviewer for numerous conferences and journals in the field and served in the program committees of many international conferences.
