Werner
Hansmann was in charge of computer graphics and geometric modelling both
in research and education at the Informatics Department of Hamburg
University. Originally a civil engineer he specialized in CAD, and he
received his doctorate in computer science in 1985 for his work on
blends for free-form surfaces. He has been working in the field of
computer graphics since the early 1970s when he was involved in the
development of interactive graphics software for first generation CAD
workstations. In the past he has held academic positions at the Bauhaus
University at Weimar, Germany, at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology, Cambridge, Mass., USA, and at the Ruhr-University at
Bochum, Germany. He has been a member of Eurographics since 1980, and
of ACM SIGGRAPH since 2000. In 1995 he was elected to fellowship of the
Eurographics Association. He co-chaired and co-organized several
Eurographics events as well as joint ACM SIGGRAPH / Eurographics events.
For various Eurographics events and other international conferences he served
as programme committee member; and he acted as referee for a number of research
organizations and journals. In 1997 he was chairman of the Eurographics
Promotions Board. He has been a member of the Eurographics Publications Board
and co-editor of the Eurographics workshop proceedings series since 1992. In
2002 and 2003 he was Director for Education of ACM SIGGRAPH. Since January 1999
he has been Eurographics Treasurer.
